0:09 Hello, Ryerson, I'm Amanda Pope. 0:11 And I'm Jake Gavonsh. Welcome to the Rye Report for Tuesday, November 19. Today we're chatting about Ryerson 's new reusable container dispenser, Balzac's drop in sales and a win for the Rams men's basketball team. But first, Ryerson's digital media zone, also known as the DMZ, has lost its spot as the number one university based incubator in the world. The news comes via a new report from UBI global. The firm publishes an annual ranking list of university incubators from around the world. The list is based on an incubators ability to develop and launch startup businesses. UBI looks at a variety of factors when determining the rank of an incubator, including the number of successful startups produced, long term profitability, and the overall quality of services offered. Ryerson captured the top spot in the 2018-2019 UBI report. But it was knocked down to second place this year by United Kingdom incubator called the Set Squared Partnership. The DMZ will retain its number one spot until early next year, when the new rankings come into effect officially. 1:15 Do you hear that terrible sound of construction? Well, that's what many of Balzac's customers have been complaining about since March. Because of this, sales have dropped 10% since construction began on Gould Street. Ryersonian reporter Cassandra Earle chatted with Balzac's supervisor Jordan Cesarone. She says that customers hate looking at the construction and asked for window curtains. 1:40 Everybody complains that we have a patio because nobody wants to sit there and watch the construction. Even from inside they complain about the noise. We've had a few people be like we should get curtains so that we don't have to look at it. 1:51 According to a Ryerson press release, the construction project is replacing all the trees in the area for infrastructure upgrades. 1:58 The Ryerson men's basketball team won its second of five games the Saturday beating the York Lions on their home court by a margin of 93 to 65. Although the game started with the Lions on top of the first half with a score of 37 to 33, the Rams bounced back in the second half. Rams guard Jaden Frederick open the half with a stunning three pointer. Rams guard Tavon Coco was undoubtably the star of the game. He scored a career high of 37 points including seven three point shots. He also had seven assists. On Thursday night the Rams play the Queen Gales at the Mattamy Athletic Center for a chance to even out there win to loss ratio for the season. 2:34 Ryerson Eats staff say students are making use of their new reusable container dispenser. It's called Ozzy. This is a vending machine that dispenses 100% reusable to-go containers designed to help minimize waste. Students can buy access to the reusable containers at the machine. They can be used up to 300 times more than a regular single use plastic container. For only $6 you can get your hands on an Ozzy container. 3:04 For the Rye Report.
